Purpose The
Olympic Yacht Club is an organization of Men & Women dedicated to the enjoyment of
boats & boating in the northwest. It is composed of pleasure boaters who seek to enjoy
the sport with the gay men & lesbians who make-up our membership. We are dedicated to
engaging in safe & enjoyable boating activities and occasional social activities.
Through this organization, we can share our expertise and learn skills in all aspects of
boating - both power & sail. Activities OYC plans a yearly schedule of activities. These can & do include; dinner meetings with speakers & programs, social potlucks, raft trips, boat outings and a Christmas party. The monthly outings & cruises are very popular, and occur on Puget Sound, Lake Union and Lake Washington. The events enable members, or prospective members, to get to know one another. Members are urged to make suggestions about outings, and have the opportunity
to be the Fleet Captain (or host) for their favorite event. The Organization OYC is served by a board of directors chosen by the membership. All officers are appointed by the board and include a Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Yeoman and Purser. The officers meet monthly to review the activities of the club. OYC is governed through by-laws which spell out the structure & responsibility of officers & members. Communication
is maintained between members through our monthly newsletter, The Olympian, which
all members receive by e-mail. Members also receive the club burgee, which serves as a means
of identifying club members' boats at outings. Membership OYC is open to all men & women boating enthusiasts, weather or not they own a boat. While by-laws dictate that at least one-third of members own boats, there has never been a need to turn anyone away. Experience
is not a requirement for becoming a member. Even the most inexperienced new boater is
welcome to join. While the club does have many experienced and competent boaters, the club
also recognizes that all boaters started with limited knowledge and have built their
skills & abilities through experience. OYC expects there will be a willingness to
learn from more experienced captains and crews. To Join OYC If you have an interest in becoming a member or learning more about the club, we recommend that you attend an outing or social event. If you wish to proceed with membership, an application can be obtained from any board member. Or, click HERE for a 'web-app' to print out and send in.
